William-Adolphe Bouguereau
As the vacations draw in, I'm beginning to take on a keen interest in painting and more basic forms of art, I'm not much of a painter - did paint for awhile a few years back, and I will definitely be quite interested in what comes out of my overly-used-on-illustrator/photoshop/indesign hands. These are the works of William A. Bouguereau, a French painter born from 1825 - 1905. I stumbled across his works while gathering resources for my final year project, and was immediately drawn into pieces like 'Dante and Virgil in Hell' and 'Biblis'. Bouguereau has expert skills of realism painting, his works are filled with dynamic emotions and lighting, playing out the character's body angles beautifully. Look at the detail of each painting; how each character is animated and diverse, yet still plays with other subject matters to create a cohesive visual prose. What appalls me is the little reputation he is given for such talent.
